UNISON’s Swansea Bay Healthcare branch is marking a national day to end violence towards women and girls with donations to three charities working against domestic violence.

The branch is marking White Ribbon Day 2022, which will be held on Friday November 25, with a total of £600 in donations to Swansea Women’s Aid, Thrive Women’s Aid and Calan DVS.

Sheryl Perrett, Swansea Bay Healthcare branch assistant secretary and women’s officer said: “Through the pandemic it has been very difficult to be able to do anything where one can reach out on a face-to-face basis with our members.

“This has been particularly the case coming from a health service branch with the majority of our members on acute hospital sites or working with the vulnerable in communities.

“On top of the donations given to our three local domestic violence charities we are also having a stall on Thursday November 24 to mark White Ribbon Day where we will be issuing white ribbons to members to wear on the day as well as providing leaflets which signpost support kindly provided by each of the charities and providing some of our own materials.

Sheryl thanked UNISON’s Swansea Bay Healthcare branch area officer Lianne Owen for support and added: “We will be trying to recruit more female members and encourage more female activism in the branch.

“We will of course be happy to recruit and gain support from all other colleagues that would like to take part.”
