UNISON members and activists across Wales have been raising funds and holding vigils in support of the people of Ukraine.
Branches have been shocked and saddened by the appalling ongoing situation in the war-torn region.
Hundreds of people gathered at short notice for a vigil in Pontypridd (pictured above) and heard speeches from politicians representing Local Government, the Welsh Assembly and Westminster MPs.
Donations have also been made by UNISON branches across Wales including those in Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot and Caerphilly to the Red Cross Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine appeal.
Our UNSAIN Gwynedd, Môn a Prifysgol Bangor branch organised a donation and a spokesperson said: “UNSAIN Gwynedd, Môn a Prifysgol Bangor felt it was important to show solidarity with the people of the Ukraine.
“Whilst it’s vital that UNISON continues to pressure for action and sanctions against Putin, it’s also desperately important that we support the immediate needs of all those fleeing the violence.
“We’re donating as the citizens of the Ukraine are in urgent need of aid including medical support, food and shelter.
“The same is true for all those displaced by oppression and war and we have also donated to the people of Afghanistan who are in an equally dire situation.”
