Workers in Pontypridd will hold a major rally against privatisation of public services, says UNISON today (Thursday).
The event follows a decision by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in October to move care in the region into the hands of private providers.
The move prompted a demonstration (pictured below) outside of the Rhondda Council offices.
UNISON will be joining forces with unions including Unite and GMB for a march which starts in Pontypridd town centre at 11am on Saturday (December 9).
UNISON Cymru/Wales regional organiser Carmen Bezzina said: “Privatising care in Rhondda Cynon Taf was an ill thought out, hasty decision.
“The people who provide these vital services and those who use them feel let down and fearful for the future.
“Saturday’s march is their chance to have their voice heard.”
UNISON Cwm Taf local government area branch secretary Peter Crews (pictured above) said: “Money spent on public services should be spent on those services, not siphoned off for profit.
“There is no evidence that privatising will either save money or improve quality.”
