Workers at St David’s Hall (pictured above) in Cardiff are now fearing for the future of their jobs after Cardiff Council confirmed the venue would remain closed for repairs until 2025.
UNISON Cardiff county branch secretary Emma Garson said:
“UNISON understands incoming operator AMG is still committed to investing in the hall but, as the work is likely to take a significant period of time, Cardiff Council is now asking staff if they would be interested in voluntary redundancy.
“Those who want to stay working for Cardiff Council will be offered employment opportunities elsewhere in the local authority.
“Long term casual workers will also be given the same opportunity.
“Despite receiving the devastating blow that they will not be returning to work in their beloved venue, staff from St David’s Hall were still focussed on the needs of the people of Cardiff and the council’s commitment to the classical music programme which is still protected under the terms of the lease.”
