Our colleagues at UNISON Learning & Organising Services have made it so members can now take an unlimited number of the 550 certificated courses available on the fantastic Staff Skills Academy e-learning system – for free.

UNISON x Open University Microcredentials & Short Courses

For the first time UNISON College and The Open University have collaborated to provide members with access to university-level Microcredential courses, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Short Courses.

The courses are designed to cater for members who are returning to education or who are continuing their learning journey. The Open University’s flexible approach accommodates diverse learning styles, backgrounds and members’ varying schedules.

This is a fantastic opportunity for members to explore university-level education or targeted professional short courses to help improve skills, knowledge and career development.

The course start dates are spread across the year in March, July, October and December 2024.

Wranx – a new way to learn

Study towards GCSEs online through Spaced Repetition

UNISON is working with Wranx to support members by offering a range of free online bite-sized training modules, including Functional Skills and GCSE Maths & English revision courses.

Wranx is an online training tool that can be accessed on any device and uses the simple scientific idea of spaced repetition to provide learning that improves knowledge retention, even with as little as 2-3 minutes of training a day.

My.UNISON e-learning

UNISON has free online learning resources for members, available by logging to your My.UNISON account.

You will find a variety of short activities which you can complete on this site inclusing learning resources are called ‘e-notes’. These display best on a desktop computer, using a browser such as Chrome or Firefox.

To login to the site, you will need a My.UNISON account. If you don’t already have one, you can set one up here.

UNISON Skills Builder – English & Maths 

We use English and maths every day. But many of us aren’t as confident as we like to be when it comes to our literacy and numeracy skills. That’s why UNISON has launched Skills Builder, an online tool designed to help you feel more comfortable using words and numbers.

It includes top tips on spelling, speed reading techniques such as skimming and scanning and suggestions on how to get the most from reading and writing.

There’s also a refresher on basic maths, with clear explanations and examples on fractions, percentages, divisions, and multiplications.

It’s absolutely free for anyone to use, no sign-up necessary.

Cymraeg Gwaith | Work Welsh

You can start learning Welsh by following these online taster courses. The courses introduce everyday words and phrases and are available to everyone, for free. Some courses have been designed for different sectors such as Health and Social Care.

Most of these courses include 10 units each (around 10 hours of learning), and are split into Part 1 (5 units, around 5 hours) and Part 2 (5 units, around 5 hours).

To get started, you’ll just need to log in or create an account – it only takes a few moments.  Good luck with learning Cymraeg!
