UNISON responds to Daily Post story: Betsi hospital masks

Responding to the today’s Daily Post report North Wales health board failed to ensure that hospital masks fit properly, says watchdog”, UNISON North Wales Health branch secretary Jan Tomlinson said,

“As a public services trade union, the safety of our members in the workplace is paramount and that’s why we have been working in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr to ensure the highest protections for NHS staff.

“During the Covid pandemic, healthcare workers have given everything to nurse sick patients and protect the public and UNISON has been doing everything we can to keep staff safe.

“The Daily Post article does not reflect the experiences of UNISON healthcare workers at Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, many of whom have undertaken training to enable them to carry out mask fit testing across the sites on the different masks available during the pandemic. These properly accredited staff have worked tirelessly in challenging circumstances to ensure all staff are protected, have the correct personal protective equipment for their role and know how to use it safely.

“Healthcare workers at Betsi and the local community can be assured, UNISON will continue to do everything possible to protect the health and safety of NHS staff.”
