UNISON Cymru Wales’ Labour Link Committee met with all three candidates for the Leadership of Welsh Labour today and voted to offer a supportive nomination to Mark Drakeford AM.
Dan Beard, who is Chair of the Committee said,
“We were very impressed with all three candidates who each presented their vision of what they hope to achieve should they be elected Leader of Welsh Labour. Mark’s views, aims and values struck a chord with those present and we are delighted to be able to support Mark’s nomination. We believe that in these difficult times where our members are still dealing with Tory austerity measures and the uncertainty of Brexit we need a leader who’s a staunch defender of public services and trade union rights. UNISON Labour Link will be campaigning and encouraging our eligible members to vote for Mark for leader of Welsh Labour.”
Mark Drakeford said,
“UNISON is the largest public sector trade union in Wales and I am honoured to know that they support my nomination and agree with my vision for Wales. As a UNISON member I am only too aware of the many services that UNISON members provide to the people of Wales on a daily basis, not just in the NHS and local government but in the third sector, education, the police and more. I look forward to working with UNISON during this leadership campaign.”
