Further education trade unions met today to discuss their next stage in their campaign to secure better pay for the further education workforce.
Ballot results published yesterday show that union members working in further education are prepared to take industrial action in the dispute over pay.
However, the college employer’s organisation, Colegau Cymru, has indicated that a pay offer of 1% may be proposed, although this is subject to formal confirmation by the Colegau Cymru Board when it meets on 12 January.
Joint trade union chair Simon Dunn said today: ”The joint unions have met to consider the outcome of the industrial action ballot, and Colegau Cymru’s latest proposal.
“Our members have given a clear mandate for strike action on the basis of the employers’ original position that they would not give any pay rise for this year.
“We have received a provisional offer from Colegau Cymru, however, that is subject to a meeting of the board.
“Once we have confirmation of a formal offer from Colegau Cymru, each of the unions will consult with its respective membership.
“Ultimately, it will be our members who decide whether a 1% pay offer is acceptable.”
