Commenting on the launch of the Welsh Labour manifesto for the Senedd elections, UNISON Cymru regional secretary Jess Turner said today (Monday):
“Commitments to a school support staff negotiating body with year-round pay, a legally enforceable fair pay agreement in social care, and equal treatment for migrant care workers are all steps forward.
“These changes would lift the pay of thousands of low-paid women in every community in Wales.
“A lifelong retraining guarantee also matters. As technology changes jobs, workers need the confidence that they won’t be left behind. That’s the kind of support government should provide.
“The direction on care is welcome, but must be accompanied by the same ambition on removing profit from adult social care as we are seeing in children’s services.”
