Commenting on the budget delivered today (Tuesday) by finance secretary Mark Drakeford, UNISON Cymru regional secretary Jess Turner said:
“After 14 years of cruel austerity and a Conservative government at Westminster that treated devolution with contempt, this is a welcome change of approach.
“This financial package, following Rachel Reeves’ budget, acknowledges – with honesty – the challenges ahead and puts improved delivery of public services as a central mission for the Welsh government.
“But one budget cannot fix the 14 years of under-funding Wales has suffered.
“There must be sustained investment coupled with a realistic long-term strategy to address the challenges in social care and the NHS, while also delivering economic growth to the benefit of people living across Wales.”
