Calling all school support staff!
UNISON Cymru is holding a one-day event, free to UNISON members in schools in Wales.
Anyone looking to attend can register interest online here.
The event, which runs from 9am to 4pm at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cardiff on Thursday November 21, is designed to build the vision for the future of schools in Wales.
Share your views and hear from the experts.
Meet people from right across the school team and from right across Wales.
Learn about changes in schools.
Change doesn’t stop at the classroom. From the meals you provide, the back office running of the school, the buildings you look after – to every contact you have with the learners and parents themselves – you make learning possible!
At this event you will hear directly from policy makers, and your union about the big issues affecting you.
Speakers will include:
- Cabinet Secretary for Education, Lynne Neagle MS
- Andrew Jenkins (The Traitors) on his journey discussing mental health and wellbeing
- Wales Restorative Approaches Partnership discussing managing challenging behaviour in school
- Professor Cathy Treadaway, Research Director HUG – shares evidence on how HUG dolls have helped pupils reduce anxiety in both mainstream and special school settings
We will also deliver Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops to include:
- Mindfulness
- Wellbeing delivered by Education Support
- Core Numeracy for TAs
- Confidence Through Song
Have your say
What should UNISON, and its 16,000 members in Wales schools be asking for? What about:
- a national structure for support staff in Wales – with clear, consistent job roles that are understood and are paid accordingly to their duties?
- consistent pay whether you work in Cardiff or Colwyn Bay?
- equal access to the training, support and development you need to do your job?
- clear and consistent guidance on dealing with challenging behaviour from pupils?
We want to start the debate, and we want you there!
As a registrant with the Education Workforce Council, you have an entitlement to continuing professional development (CPD) and this is a fantastic opportunity to gain some valuable training. You have every right to ask to attend events like this as part of your development.
