Jess Turner, UNISON Cymru Wales lead organiser on social care:
“We know this must be a very worrying time for staff and wanted to let you know that UNISON is here to support you. Please contact your UNISON rep as soon as possible if you have concerns and we will continue to issue advice and information as soon as we hear about it.
“UNISON is working with councils to try to ensure the security of staff and safety of service users. If any of your colleagues don’t have the protection of belonging to a union at such a difficult time, let them know why it’s important to join UNISON.”
Donna Hutton, UNISON Cymru Wales head of health said,
“Private companies should not be allowed to make money out of care. Care should start with the premise of what is best for the individual and the carer, not how to extract profit. Local Authorities will now be expected to cover the cost of the termination of the contracts, this is no way to deal with vulnerable care users and their carers.UNISON continues to campaign for investment in care services, which should be run in the public sector, and investment in carers themselves.”
