High profile Neath Port Talbot politicians will gather at the council’s offices tomorrow (Friday) for a ‘Question Time’ style event with all the employees of the local authority. UNISON’s local branch has organised the session and the trade union said focus will be on the damage being wrought by severe UK government spending cuts on local community services.
Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Christina Rees MP, Stephen Kinnock MP David Rees AM, Jeremy Miles AM and local councillors will attend the Stop Taking our Public Services event at 1pm on Friday 8 September 2017.
Mark Fisher, UNISON branch chair said,
“This is the opportunity for refuse workers, cleaners, carers, highway repair workers, school support staff and many more to tell their political representatives huge budget cuts undermine the provision of quality services.
“Dramatically reduced funding means jobs are at risk and cutting staff will inevitably hit standards of services for local people. UK Conservative austerity means council services are at crisis point. We want politicians to support our call for fair funding from Welsh government for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.”
