Safety

There are understandable safety concerns for trade unionists attending counter-protests against far-right demonstrations. The demonstration will be fully stewarded to ensure it is safe and welcoming for all. We want UNISON members to stay safe and you can help to minimise risk by:

  • Following Police advice when given
  • Counter protests must be peaceful and within the law
  • A lead steward should provide a contact mobile phone number to all attendees, ensuring you can assemble together at the same time in the same place
  • UNISON members should stay together at all times.
  • If the lead steward feels the situation is at any time unsafe they must ask UNISON members to leave the protest together as quickly as possible
  • UNISON works with Stand Up To Racism, but ultimately branches must judge the local situation for UNISON members and their safety for themselves.

Information from STUR Wales

Tommy Robinson is calling for “the UK’s biggest free speech festival” on 13 September in London. The reality is Robinson wants to bring his far-right thug supporters onto the streets to spread racist division and Islamophobia. We have halted his attempts to build a fascist street movement in Britain again and again – but the context is even more dangerous now.

Be part of the Welsh delegation joining the counterprotest in London to say NO to those who want to divide us and spread vile racist hatred. The far right have been calling demonstrations targeting refugees in their accommodation across the country. We have seen an upsurge in far-right mobilisations here in Wales. Those who we have opposed here in Wales are supporters of Tommy Robinson and will be going to London. We must oppose them in London.

We know we can defeat him – because we have done it before. Anti-fascists and anti-racists in Wales must be part of mass opposition to stop him.
