Trade union representatives of staff at Bangor university have welcomed the support of the First Minister in their campaign to oppose compulsory redundancies to meet a budget shortfall.
Carwyn Jones AM, met with the trades unions in north Wales on Friday last week to hear their concerns about the proposed job losses at Bangor university. He restated his opposition to compulsory redundancies.
Geoff Edkins, UNISON organiser said,
“It’s great the First Minister has added his considerable authority to the campaign to protect jobs at Bangor university. Like him, UNISON and the other trades unions are completely opposed to compulsory redundancies.
“We must protect the quality of education and student support at Bangor and we’ll work hard with the university to achieve those aims. The trades unions will continue to identify where savings can be made in order to safeguard jobs.”
